Hollywood Siren of the Day- Dorothy Dandridge. Anytime that I am lost for something to do, or I’m having that quiet moment with an iced green tea on a bright friday afternoon, I could get involved in my old movie collection. Thought to be one of my favorites with a very strong, vintage persona that I adore, is Carmen. The lively actress with an enticing power that could draw a person into devastation, eventually led her to her own downcast destiny. This is definitely a story to see, a story of lust and devastating attraction. The actress who performs this role, drew my attention as i saw a movie about her life.
Halle Berry, who plays her, was the first African-American actress to be nominated for an Oscar. Her road to stardom could not be more glittery and full of promise. Dorothy Dandridge was born in 1922, to Ruby Dandridge, an aspiring actress, and Cyril Dandridge, a cabinet maker and minister. After her parents separated, Ruby formed an act for Dorothy and her other daughter, under the name of ‘The Wonder Children’. This life of entertainment and dreams resulted in a childhood of non-stop moving and non-existent schooling.
Being raised in the recession age, Dorothy and her folks undergone great trouble like plenty of other US citizens. Ruby moved the family to Hollywood and was able to come across a stable income stream, actively playing bit-part roles as servants in flicks. ‘The Wonder Youngsters ‘ were renamed ‘The Dandridge Sisters ‘ and they performed in well known locations akin to ‘The Cotton Club’. I observed the film named after this feted location, and additionally was right away captivated by the place. Her look can easily be mimicked with a bit of imagination, without dipping into the vintage drawers. She wore an easy, jersey cropped top and overlay wrap, red skirt.
